Resource Assessment, Forecast and WECs O&M strategies at DanWEC and beyond
The projects objectives are 1) to define the long-term wave climate around Hanstholm area using measurements from three buoys off Hanstholm and by validating modelled against buoy-measured data, and 2) to build competences in defining Operation and Maintenance strategies for wave energy converters (WECs) and other offshore activities in the study area.
This project will deliver detailed information of the environment conditions at the Danish Wave Energy Center (DanWEC) and an optimization of operations and maintenance (O&M) procedures, which will ultimately improve WEC´s operation and reduce WEC´s costs.
Particular, the proposed project has the following commercial and practical outcomes:
-
Collecting, processing and analyzing wave buoy measured data (WP1).
-
Gathering hindcast and forecast data from DHI (WP2).
-
Validating DHI models against measured data (WP3).
-
Defining Hanstholm wave climate harvesting practical experience from real sea WEC testing, cross-correlation time line of O&M activities with DHOs forecasting and hindcasting, defining timeline regarding long-term optimal WECs O&M procedures (WP4)
-
Disseminating project findings to have the wave energy sector, the research community and to potential industrial customs (WP5).
-
Ensuring successful project implementation and the progress of all project tasks as detailed in the Grant diagram (WP1).
Overall, the project provides insight into key-elements fostering the wave energy sector, which can also be relevant to well-established industries operating in Hanstholm area and beyond.
