Medi Sander Wind

The overall purpose of this project is to develop Medi Sander Wind and significantly reduce costs  regarding blade production. The objective will be reached through a new patented technology. In addition the project addresses a serious health issue in the production environment concerning the manual sanding of blades.

Project description

The project is about the development of Medi-Sander wind, an automated system for sanding wind turbine blades made of fiberglass. A pre-treatment of the blade must take place before painting. Today the sanding is performed manually and the standardized working typically corresponds to 100-150 hours pr. Turbine blade. By using Medi-Sander Wind we expect to reduce the sanding time pr. Blade to 10 hours, thereby achieving a significant reduction of wages.

The project will be implemented in cooperation between the project holder/patent applicant IN Service in Karup and the company Senex/Blade Treatment in Koldning. The latter currently supplies sanding equipment and sanding parts to the wind turbine industry. Thus we have an important base of competence regarding technology development and market knowledge collected in the project.

We will focus on building a stable system, and together with Vestas and Siemens we will test the system in accordance with the two companies´ blade types. The experience gained from the test will enable us to build the final model of Medi-Sander-Wind and make the system ready to final launch in direct continuation of the project.
