Additive manufacturing (#D Print) of lage structures within the wind industry
The purpose is to develop and demonstrate additive manufacturing methodes in the wind industry. The methods are in this project tested on a Vestas blade section (8 meter I-beam). The methods shall after the project be further developed and tested by Vestas on a smaller blade. The mothods shall reduce LCOE and lead time within blades production.
This development and demonstration project is supported by AM research projects fund by Innovationsfonden and run by the partners in this project. The project happens in 2 steps:
- Development and demonstration of AM of an I-beam in existing robotic det-up at the National Composite Center (NCC)
- Development and demonstration of AM det up for the wind industry capable of producing an I-beam
The current way of manufacturing large composite structures in the wind industry is quite traditional. The focus is on manual labour and furthermore costly moulds are widely used, which increases LCOE, centalised production and lead time, while also putting a limit to the design freedom and sustomization in the wind industry.
