Commercial forecasting and Aggregation of SME Heat Pumps
The goal of CASHPumps is to demonstrate an economically attractive solution of SME owners of heat pumps to deliver balancing power. This meets the challenge of balancing the power net with a growing share of fluctuating renewable energy and at the same time decreasing dependency on fossil fueled power plants that provide balancing power today.
Project CASHPump aims to transform technical potential of intelligent control of heat pumps (HP) into its commercial solution to benefit SME HP-owners, aggregator, balance responsible parties (BRP) and transmission system operator (TSO).
CASHPump combines a unique hardware setup with forecasting techniques integrated into an existing portfolio of regulator power, operated by the independent aggregator. Successful execution unlocks an income source for SME owners of HP by connecting them to increasingly attractive market with regulating power through an aggregator. TSO and BRP are offered a quick and reliable source of clean regulating power, decreasing the need of substantial investments in (idle) capacity.
Project CASHPump is built on the partnership between an independent aggregator (EConGrid) supplier of heating services (EWII Energi) and university (DTU).
The technology will be based on further developing the forecasting model developed in the CITIES project (DTU); controller hardware developed in the EConGrid project and developing a software solution to integrate model and data EConGrid´s existing platform. The entire system will be installed and extensively tested in existing HP installations in SME´s during two seasons.
