Steamboost - Increased power from waste
Babcock & Wilcox Vølund have made the initial development of a patented superheater technology (SteamboostTM) that can increase the electrical efficiency of waste combustion plants to approximately 30%. The novel idea of the technology is to avoid or control the deposit formation and corrosion on a high temperature superheater positioned over the grate by splitting the flue gas from the grate in a corrosive and a less corrosive fraction, and use the less corrosive flue gas fraction for the Steamboost super heater. In the Steamboost technology, the Steamboost superheater will be positioned over the last part of the grate in the zone of the “non-corrosive gas”.
The objectives of the project are the following:
-
To tests and demonstrate that the Steamboost technology works well at full scale.
-
To provide the needed optimization and process control strategies that will be used on plants that applies the Steamboost technology.
A successful demonstration of the full scale Steamboost technology will be a major precondition to facilitate a market introduction of the Steamboost technology.
