Wind turbine performance evaluation in all terrains

The aim of this project is to proof the iSpin measurement capability and robustness on a broad scale. The robustness shall be proven based on measurements of a total of around 90 WTGs located in 9 wind farms. Measurement data of 3 different turbine types – each installed in 3 different terrain classes – shall be evaluated by independent 3rd party consultants and by the Danish Technical University (DTU) as project partner.

Project description

The Performance Transparency Project (PTP) is set up to prove that ROMO Wind patented iSpin technology can function as a robust, i.e. universal tool to verify and monitor power curves of wind  turbine generators (WTGs) within a wind farm and in all terrains. It is planned to install iSpin systems on a total of around 90 WTGs in 9 different wind farms.  3 different turbine types – each of them installed at 3 different terrain classes (flat, semi-complex and complex of offshore)- shall be evaluated by independent 3rd party consultants and  by preparation. In the execution and analysis phase the robustness by the Danish Technical University (DTU) as project partner.

The PTP is divided into phases. The preparation phase includes turbine type and site selection, 3rd party work scope definition and selection, data base/data access as well as installation preparation. In the execution and analysis phase the robustness proof measurements will be performed and made available to the project members. In the data validation phase the 3rd parties will perform the independent validation of the iSpin measurements capabilities. DTU will focus on the uncertainties and defining a “best practice method” for power curve measurements using iSpin. Validation results shall be made publically available. Scientific findings will be presented towards the relevant IEC committees, with the aim to rework the nacelle based power curve measurement standard with special consideration of the iSpin technology.
