Automatic separation of unseparated household waste phase 2
The Project shall establish and operate a demonstration plant at commercial conditions in Fasterholt in Jutland.
The separation method of the demo-plant is developed and patented by Biosystemer ApS. The method exploits the different floating properties of the individual components of the household waste, when it is dumped into a basin (The Water Sorter) with a water flow. During 30 seconds it will be split into:
-
A light high floating fraction
-
A heavy sinking fraction
-
A fraction of bio-waste and heavy components, floating because of trapped air
Separation of fraction 3 into bio-waste and heavy components is conducted by a ballistic belt conveyor.
Finally, the bio-waste will be disintegrated and pressed to 40% dry matter and used as substrate for production of bio-ethanol or biogas.
Degree of re-use
The objective of the project is to demonstrate, that the degree of reuse of household waste as high as 70% can be obtained by automatic separation, and at the same time to demonstrate that the content of problematic substances in the residual fraction is below the threshold values for use as fertilizer in the countries to which the Water Sorter will be exported.
