Cooling plants using temperature glide

COP is probably increased if liquid refrigerant is injected in the compression-phase, where it will absorb the gas during the compression. Furthermore the compression is cooled and has no super heating. Tests will be done by liquid injection in one type of compressor, for proof of concept.
Project description

Many cooling and heating processes has a temperature glide.

The max. possible COP for a process with temperature glide is Lorenz COP, which can be larger than Carnot´s COP. A better COP increases the economical advantages for heat pumps compared to other forms of heating.

Injection of liquid refrigerant under the compression might make it possible to get close to Lorenz´ COP.

This technology has the following advantages compared to conventional heat pumps:

- Ideal compression without superheating

- The gas is absorbed in the liquid, minimizing the amount of gas that is compressed.

- From the compressor hot liquid is taken out, with at temperature as wished for the high temperature in par example district heating.

In the project we by, modify and test one type of compressor, that is modified for handling a big amount of liquid. The compressor will be working with a conventional evaporator.

The design an modifications of the compressor is made by DTU.

The test rig and the experiments are made at Teknologisk Institut.
