Project description
The overall target for this project is to develop an industrialized concept for Building Integrated Solar PV-BIPV that visualizes a number of added values, minimizes additional costs and thus paves the way for a wide use of PV in the built environment. The concept will be developed and demonstrated as a roof integrated PV system aimed for new detached houses; however the potential for further innovation based on the core of it is huge.
Private and public buildings are responsible for almost 40% of the total energy consumption in Europe [1]. In this context, BIPV electricity generation is an attractive solution. The potential for BIPV to become a cheaper solution than standard rack mounted solutions is relatively large however so far this potential has not at all been realized. In this project we aim to investigate and pinpoint the most important technical factors in correlation to aesthetics and (soft) price of BIPV which are crucial for harvesting its huge potential. Based on an analysis of three different approaches to roof mounted PV, the most suitable solution in accordance to Skanska’s criteria will be chosen to be further developed and demonstrated.
