iVENT – Intelligent energy efficient decentralized ventilation of apartments

The project develops a compact decentralized ventilation solution for apartment buildings. The focus is on minimized pressure losses, a new automatic balancing, intelligent control and monitoring operated by an App. iVENT2020 meets BR2020 by reducing power consumption by 15%, construction costs by 20-30% and operating costs of 40-50%.

The iVENT2020 project develops affordable system solutions for decentralized ventilation of housing, mainly apartments.

Project description

The iVENT2020 project develops affordable system solutions for decentralized ventilation of housing, mainly apartments. The focus is on automatic regulation, reduced pressure losses, and intelligent mon-itoring and control, significantly increase energy efficiency.

Despite the development in the field of ventilation, the status is:

There is still a need for reduction of pressure losses in decentralized compact installations. This applies to duct design, supply and extract valves, and in connection with effective sound attenuation.

Missing or incorrect adjustment increases airflow problems between apartments, and the heat recovery rate is reduced by imbalanced airflows. Automatic balancing airflows and ensuring that the ventilation works optimally is needed - considering both energy efficiency and indoor climate.

ICT and the IoT development provides new options for operational monitoring and control optimizing performance, for follow-up on the balancing, and simplifying system maintenance and servicing.

The potential for developing installations - cost-effective in both construction and operation, being a barrier to the market, is not fully exploited.

In this context, LINDAB wishes to develop iVENT2020, strengthening the company in the national and international competition.

The project is carried out in a close cooperation between Lindab A/S and the Danish Technological In-stitute, Energy efficiency and Ventilation.

An automatic balancing algorithm has been developed in the project, intended for 2 extraction points and 5 supply points. The algorithm creates a balance between supply and exhaust at minimal pressure loss in the duct system, ie optimal damper angle for all dampers. The air balance is also maintained by using the hood or bath or both. A significant part (component) is Lindab's ultrasonic flowmeter incl. control damper FTCU.
