EEEHy Efficient and Economic Electrolytic Hydrogen production

EEEHy aims to generate the knowledge that will result in the demonstration of a game- changing high temperature and pressure alkaline electrolyzer. The novel materials, electrode architecture, stack and system design developed in EEEHy will pave the way for a huge leap forward in cost-efficient electrolyzer technology, boosting conversion efficiency (HHV) to 99% (from 70-85% today) and H2 production rate by a factor of 2- 5. Electrolysis is a key technology for transitioning to a 100% sustainable energy system, as it enables both large scale low cost energy storage and production of sustainable chemicals and transport fuels. The strategic partnerships and product roll- out strategy established in EEEHy will accelerate penetration in the fast growing electrolyzer market, estimated to exceed a market value of 5,000 M€ by 2030 and 50,000 M€ by 2050 in Europe alone, leading to the creation of ca. 50,000 and 250,000 new jobs by 2030 and 2050, respectively.
