Participation to the IEA Task on Quiet Wind Turbine Technology
The purpose of this proposal is the participation in the upcoming IEA Wind Research, Development & Demonstration Task on Quiet Wind Turbine Technology. This initiative, led by H. Rice from Trinity College Dublin, aims at accelerating the development and deployment of quiet wind turbine technology. It will involve various institutions across Europe and America that are dealing with wind turbine noise issues. As a strating point for this collaboration. amplitude modulation (AM) has recently attracted considerable public attention. It is planned that the collaboration will carry on with a series of suck sub-tasks addressing specific technology or regulatory issues. Low-frequency noise is one of the important topics related to wind turbine noise, which the applicants foresee will be brought forward as a sensitive issue in Denmark and other countries.
This project will result in a series of guidelines according to the different sub-tasks that will pave the way for future wind turbine noise regulations and certification standards (e.g. as defined by the IEC-61400-11 standard or Danish Energy Agency's technical certification scheme). For example, to date no specific regulation exists for the assessment of AM when certifying wind turbines.
