IEA Bioenergy - Climate and substainability effects og bioenergy within the broader bioeconomy

Institut for Geovidenskab og Naturforvaltning (IGN)
The purpose of the project is 1) to indentify and adress critical issues related to climate and other sustainability effects of bioenergy and biobased products, 2) to explore and develop science-based methodologies for assessing the effects of biobased systems, and 3) to dissemante knowledge to the Danish bioenergy sector and stakeholders.
Project description

The purpose of this project is to participate in the global IEA Bioenergy network, Task45, to ensure access for the Danish bioenergy sector to knowledge amd information on climate change effects and other sustainability issues of bioenergy.

Task 45 has as its obejctive to identify and adress critical issues related to climate and the sustainability effects og bioenergy and biobased product and systems. A central aspect concerns the development and application of science-based methodologies and tools for assessing the effects of biobased systems.

Task 45's work programme is divided intro three workpackages (WP). WP1 focus on metrics, methods, and tools for assessing climate change effects of bioenergy, WP2 focus on metrics, methods, and tools for assessing sustainability effects, other than on climate change, of bioenergy, and WP3 looks at involving sustainability stakeholders and implementation approaches (governance).

Dissemination is a critical part of this project and it works on tranferring knowledge and insights from tge IEA Bioenergy network to Danish bioenergy stakeholders in Danish through newsletters and an open seminar.
