Urban Waste Hydrofaction
The project is motivated by a need for de-risking of central process steps related to a new application of Hydrofaction for conversion of high ash containing urban waste streams to green transportation fuels. Focus will be on feedstock specific risks, such as the effect of high ash on wear and general processability and tolerances for feedstock contaminants in sorted waste streams.
Project description
The project is motivated by a need for de-risking of central process steps related to a new application of Hydrofaction for conversion of high ash content urban waste streams to green transportation fuels. Hereby it is expected to mature the technology to a level constituting an attractive pathway for disposal of sorted organic waste for Aalborg Forsyning, Renovation. Furthermore, and in combination with the above, the ambition is to demonstrate Hydrofaction as an attractive and efficient circular solution for conversion of sewage sludge for Aalborg Forsyning Kloak. The objective is to do so with high energy and phosphorous recovery as well as full removal of environmentally hamful components from products streams, thereby providing an attractive circular solution superior to alternatives. The key activities in this phase focus on feedstock specific reisk e.g. the effect of the ash content in waste compared to low ash content for processing of wood residues on wear in critical components, general processability, and establishment of tolerances for contaminants in sorted waste streams. Preliminary mass- and energy balances will be established.
