Test of Citizens Energy Communities in practice in two greater housing associations with focus on flexibility and energy savings

The growing interest for development of more renewable energy in local communities and its vicinity is supported by a new EU legislation regarding the local energy communities (CEC). At the same time, the development of renewable energy increases the need to adapt to the current consumption for variations of the power generation.

This project tests the potential for increased power efficiency and a flexible power consumption in two local energy communities, in two general housing areas in the Greater Copenhagen, with large solar cells and associated batteries.

Finally, the project will show how larger housing associations, wishing to join forces in an energy community, must act in relation to future legislations and which instruments from the power grid companies and power traders will be the most appropriated.
Project description

The growing interest for development of renewable energy in a local community and its vicinity is supported by a new EU legislation regarding local energy communities (CEC). At the same time, this development of renewable energy will increase the need to adapt the current consumption for variations in the power production.

The purpose of this project is to develop and test new methods to meet the energy communities, and to investigate framework conditions.

The project will investigate and test in a pilot scale to see how the energy communities really works. Further, the communities will be evaluated through an analysis of near real time data and visualization of the electrical power consumption and electrical power production.

The project will generate valuable experiences on how larger housing associations, who wish to cooperate in an energy community, can act in relation to the coming legislation and which instruments from the grid companies and the electrical power traders can be appropriated for the benefit of all parties.
