Demonstration of Future Nacelle Test Bench Foundation
The objective is to ensure future large-scale nacelle test facilities are technical and economically feasible for the wind industry. This will be done by further developing and demonstrating R&D Test System’s current concept. The project goal in general is better understanding of large-scale concrete constructions subjected to high dynamic loading and thus provide knowledge also for other large concrete structures such as generic wind turbine foundations, concrete bridges etc.
Project description
Based on R&D Test System’s current wind turbine test bench foundation concept the objective is to further develop and demonstrate the foundation construction and sub-systems. New methods and concepts for incapsulating the test large loads from the nacelle testing in the foundation will be introduced and demonstrated, improving the foundation design and further understanding the stresses in large reinforced concrete structures.
A case study will be performed in which a scale model of a complete future test bench foundation is exposed to equally scaled loads mirroring reality. The future test bench foundation will include post tensioning the concrete foundation in multiple directions, a new machine interface anchor system and vibration damping system. The future test bench foundation will also include incorporating a structural health monitoring system in the concrete, capable of logging stresses in the concrete and reinforcement. This system will collect data on the residual foundation lifetime.Key figures
