Megawatt scalable versatile Grid Emulation system
- Comprehensive study of future renewables grid requirements and standards leading to a requirement table
- Grid emulator concept and design depending on state-of-the-art grid test requirements
- “Proof of concept” grid emulator prototype focusing on:
- Scalable in modules (of e.g. 1MVA) – to achieve high power outputs
- High voltage and up to 66kV
- Multipurpose (functionalities to cover future requirements
MERGE is a comprehensive study of future renewables grid requirements and standards leading to a requirement table, a grid emulator concept and design depending on state-of-the-art grid test requirements will be developed and a “Proof of concept” grid emulator prototype will be tested: Scalable in modules (of e.g. 1MVA), high voltage and up to 66kV and multipurpose (functionalities to cover future requirements.
Through the unique collaboration between AAU, R&D and above OEM following group it will be possible to map the future grid requirements, product development and end user inputs. R&D wants to build a new business area with the primary focus on turn-key solutions of the grid emulators combined with their existing test bench technology.
Results will be used to commercialize the technology together with the OEM's in the area and to increase the competences within the area for the partners involved in the project.
The research part of the project will be communicated to the research community within the areas of grid codes and standards for generating power units, wind turbine application in general, power electronic converters, grid emulator systems. The main dissemination will be through conference and journal papers for instance IEEE conferences and journals, Elsevier, Energies etc.
