ELS - Eltronic Loading System - an innovative barge-to-jack-up vessel reloading system for WTG components

The goal of the project is to develop a barge to jack-up vessel loading technology, which can operate in wavw height of 2.5 m, and that will increase the operation window significantly. 

Project description

Eltronic Wind Solutions [EWS] and FORCE Technology [FORCE] are technology partners that together will develop a product and process for lifting offshore WTG components from floating barge to jack-up vessel. This project will optimize the utilization of the very costly jack-up vessels by reducing the time in port and in transit between port and installation site.
Development of barge to jack-up vessel loading technology, which can operate in wave height of 2.5 m, will increase the operation window significantly. Competing barge to jack-up loading technologies can operate in wave height of maximum 1.5 m. This project is expected to increase the utilization rate of the jack-up vessel significantly which will reduce OPEX of minimum 15%.
Installation method from the EU / world cannot be used in US due to "The Jones Act" regulation and ELS system is needed. The goal for EWS is that 80% of the upcoming installations in the US (forecasts estimate up to 30 GW by 2030) will use the ELS system, which corresponds to approx. 2000 installations. In addition, a market share of 25% is expected in the rest of the world by 2030, with a special focus on installations that are far from shipping ports.
