Danish participation in IEA HPT Annex – IoT Annex – Digitalization and IoT for Heat Pumps

Køle- og Varmepumpeteknik

The project is linked to the annex on digitization and IoT in the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme for Heat Pumping Technologies. In this annex, opportunities and challenges of IoT enabled heat pumps will be elaborated, with focus on:
• State of the art
• Interfaces
• Data analysis
• Services

Project description

This project focuses on the Danish participation in the IEA Annex about digitalization and IoT for heat pumps, and provides various stakeholders with an overview of the potentials. Furthermore, it derives recommendations for exploiting these potentials. IoT enabled heat pumps are expected to play a major role in the future in various aspects, such as increased comfort for the user, reduction in energy consumption and decarbonization of heat supply. Within the Annex, three central topics will be elaborated:
• Interfaces: Questions are how data at different system levels is transferred to the IoT, where which kind of data is processed, and where operation decisions are made.
• Data analysis: How to make wise use of the collected data to provide targeted information for the optimized operation of heat pumps, e.g. machine-learning algorithms and soft sensors.
• Services: IoT enabled heat pumps can provide different services connected to various business models. E.g. in a smart grid during peak loads.
The project is associated with the Annex about Digitalization and IoT for Heat Pumps which is part
of the Technology Collaboration Programme of IEA on Heat Pumping Technologies.
