International standards for lighting, global energy savings

International lighting standards set important conditions when it comes to saving energy on
lighting. The project will incorporate greater attention to energy savings combined with lighting
quality in future standards and proactively create development opportunities for Danish companies
with a focus on energy efficient lighting - within measuring equipment, lighting fixtures
and consulting.

Project description

Standards enable comparison of products and services across the world. Within LED lighting,
standards are essential in a global market. The project will aim to revise standards for measurement
and data transfer to support energy savings and light quality. These energy savingsand quality improvements will be disseminated globally through the standards. At the national level, the project will disseminate knowledge about the new and future standards and thus prepare the Danish lighting industry for the upcoming challenges. In Denmark, we are well prepared to be able to shape the worldwide standardization, due the following factors:

  • a fruitful network of light scientists with a significant international reputation
  • received a nomination for the chairmanship of the technical committee CIE S 025, which prepares one of the most important light measurement standards
  • Danish companies dedicated to the development and sale of lighting equipment to the whole world
  • a number of companies that deal with high-level lighting consultancy, and for who energy savings in combination  with good lighting solutions are a must.

The project gives the company Viso Systems the opportunity to influence and lead in the application
of the new standards. The company will create software solutions that both meet the standard requirements and elevate the new methods to major assets. Effective, ongoing communication of the project's results to the Danish lighting industry, through the Danish Center for Lighting will bring Danish suppliers and consultants to the forefront in the implementationof new practices.
