e-VESSELS - DEVELOPMENT AND DEMONSTRATION OF A MODULAR ZERO-EMISSION PROPOLUSION SYSTEM FOR MARITIME TRANSPORTATION
The purpose of the project is to test fuel cells together with an ESS system at sea, and extract experience for optimal utilization of such a plant.
The aim of the project is to test, improve and develop propulsion forms for ships that do not emit GHG (Green House Gasses). The project will develop fuel cells that are usable for maritime use and can provide a stable current for use in the vessel. Unfortunately, fuel cells work best at even loads and the need for energy on the ship is very variable, so therefore there is a need for an EES (Electrical Energy Storage) system. Lithium-ion batteries will be used for this system. Fuel cells with an EES system has not been tested at sea, and we look forward to the results that come out of the project which can be worked on wtih the next projects which participants must work with going forward.
