Flexible Citizen Energy Communities for Increased Renewable Energy, FLEXCEC

We see Citizen Energy Communities (CEC) and Renewable Energy Communities (REC) as instruments for connecting local citizens, smart buildings, and renewable energy sources intelligently to the local grid. The project aims at empowering citizens with novel digital services to incentivize private investment in decentralized RE production.

Project description

The FLEX-CEC project aims at unfolding the potential of Citizen Energy Communities (CEC) in Denmark. The goal is to harness flexibility (FLEX) from the participating citizens and businesses with flexible energy production and consumption. The project consists of three distinct pilots, each with its characteristics in terms of governance, participants, and energy setup. 1) In Nordhavn, assets such as solar PV facilities, a grid-connected battery, heat pumps or cooling equipment, and regular energy consumption will form the CEC. For a start, this CEC will provide Balance Responsible Party (BRP) flexibility by aggregating small assets. In the second part of the demo, the CEC will expand the scope and provide potential DSO supporting grid services such as power quality stabilization for which a market is not yet defined. 2) Based in Copenhagen's “Nordvest kvarteret” district, the vision is to join the solar panels of a school, a housing cooperative, and private properties with a focus on privacy aspects of the CEC’s. 3) In the Kolding area, the utility and energy company EWII A/S will organize a CEC. Here the focus will be on how energy companies can take a facilitating role of a CEC. Find more information on: https://enyday.com/flex-cec-project
