DigitalPV - Digitalisation of PV operations

New PV module and inverter technology replace old well-known solutions potentially introducing new failure modes. To mitigate such risk factors and support continued deployment of utility scale PV projects, this project will develop updated O&M tools applicable to the new PV technology with high-power high current PV modules, taking full advantage of digitalization and Electrical Imped-ance Spectroscopy.

Project description

New PV module and inverter technologies are currently replacing previous well-known solutions. To mitigate risk factors and protect the investment in utility scale projects, the applicants will develop O&M tools appli-cable to new high-power high-current PV modules, taking full advantage of the opportunities in digitalization.
In specific the project will:
• Develop a new performance indicator, that describe the actual performance of each individual elec-trical string in the park
• Digitalize the automatic collection and analysis of IV-curve measurements made on all electrical strings in the park
• Apply Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy to obtain detailed information on the health status of all individual PV modules in the string
• Search for yet unknown risk factors in the new PV module technology and identify root causes and mitigation methods.
The project brings together in one consortium:
- a Danish PV project developer, European Energy,
- a research institute, DTU Fotonik
- a Danish PV-instrument developer and sales company, Emazys
As outcome of the project European Energy expect to integrate the new monitoring and fault-detection solu-tion into it’s O&M-service offerings to external asset owners. For Emazys the outcome of the project will be an upgraded instrument capable of handling the higher currents and a diagnostic string combiner box capa-ble of detecting failure modes.
