SDU and industrial partners participation in IEA DHC TS4

Center for Energy Informatics, Mærsk Instituttet

The project will explore the opportunities for increased digitalization of the district heating sector. Specifically, data from digital network models and sensor data from the network will be utilized in development efforts of fault prediction and facility management of district heating systems. In addition, business models for district heating digitalization will be explored and evaluated.

Project description

This project aims to extend the existing danish participation in the IEA DHC Annex TS4 ‘Digitalisation of District Heating: Optimised Operation (and Maintenance) of District Heating and Cooling Schemes via Digital Processes Management’.

The IEA DHC Annex TS4 has two aims:

- To promote the opportunities of the integration of digital processes into district heating and cooling
(DHC) schemes and to clarify the role of digitalization for different parts within the operation (and
maintenance) of the district heating and cooling system.
- To offer insights on how digitalization impacts the district heating industry, system suppliers, showcases the current state of the art, identifies barriers, and presents objectives, targets, and recommendations.

The following specific tasks of the IEA DHC Annex TS4 have not been covered by any Danish participation and will be covered by the project partners:
1. Fault prediction, detection, and diagnosis in DH systems (the activities related to Subtask C in IEA DHC Annex TS4)
2. Digitalization and big data driven business model innovation and value creation (the activities related to Subtask D in IEA DHC Annex TS4)
3. Knowledge transfer and dissemination of the above two tasks (the activities related to Subtask E in IEA DHC Annex TS4)
