Participation in the Hydrogen Safety Task 43

Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering

The IEA task objective is to ease the introduction of large-scale hydrogen energy systems. Hydro-gen related RCS is the basis for any safety practise ensuring hydrogen industries capability to supply safe and reliable products. The work supports stakeholders to build a safety culture to ease implementation of hydrogen solutions The knowledge is disseminated incl. by guidelines and ed-ucational materials.

Project description

The Hydrogen TCP Task on Hydrogen Safety will develop methodologies and recommendations for hydro-gen safety. Safety is crucial for a successful transition of the energy system to hydrogen solutions and the aim of the project is to support all involved in the hydrogen roll-out with relevant safety guidelines and stan-dards. The work will be carried out by five subtasks focusing on both basic technical safety issues for hydro-gen, safety culture and safety management systems. Furthermore, a specific dissemination task will ensure an international dissemination of the results. A Danish add-on to the international dissemination will ensure access to the results for all Danish actors in the national market scale-up of hydrogen energy systems. The work is based on the previous Hydrogen TCP Tasks no. 19, 31 and 37 and many international and national hydrogen safety projects.
The Hydrogen TCP Safety Task has the following structure:
Task: Safety and RCS (Regulations, Codes, and Standards) for Hydrogen Energy Applications
Subtask A: Social (comprehensive) risk
Subtask B: Safety culture and management system
Subtask C: Safety distance methods
Subtask D: Hazardous area classification
Subtask E: Safety of Hydrogen Systems
Subtask F: Dissemination (international)
