EUDP 2022-II: Mobile Robot Crane Platform

Det Tekniske Fakultet, SDU Center for Large Structure Production (LSP)

The project aims to design, develop, and control a new robotic platform. The platform will enable automation of processes from the energy sector, which take place at a height of 15-20 meters and require great accuracy. The platform will consist of an innovative combination of known compo-nents and will, among other things, be demonstrated in a use-case on welding of offshore con-structions.

Project description

The project will design, develop, and control a mobile robot crane platform that enables the automation of precise production processes at heights of 15-20 meters, as they occur specifically in the energy sector. The project will yield a demonstrator that will be benchmarked in the central application scenario of welding of offshore structures, which directly offers the widest market opportunities.
The platform is expected to yield significant opportunities for automated production of large-scale structures. The demand within the wind industry for nacelle, wind-towers, transition pieces, jackets and monopiles as well as floating foundations is very large and increasing every year. Investment in infrastructure such as large tunnels and bridges are being funded at an increasing rate worldwide and therefore demanding further automation and industrialization to provide large scale production of building elements. The shipbuilding industry have for years looked for solutions, which can reduce the demand for labor intensive and costly production flows.
The project will use a direct management and decision-making structure. Project governance is two-layered and consists of a Project Management Group managed by the Project Leader and a Steering Committee, both supported by a project facilitator. The project has been divided into 7 work packages.
