EUDP 2022-11: IEA Task54 - Cold Climate

Institut for Vind og Energisystemer

The main purpose of the project is to gather and share information about the application of wind energy in cold climate, and to produce useful recommendations, guidelines, and methodology reports to be used by industry and researchers dealing with wind-in-cold-climate-related issues. This is obtained through development and sharing of software and comparative experiments in cold-climate wind tunnels.

Project description

The main purpose of the project is to gather, share and disseminate information about application of wind energy in cold climate, and to produce useful recommendations, guidelines, and methodology reports to be used by industry and researchers dealing with wind-in-cold-climate-related issues. This is done through par ticipation in the IEA Wind Task 54 working group. The current work plan for IEA Wind Task 54 focuses on continuing to produce pre-standard type reports, but also focuses on broader dissemination methods, in cluding blog(s), GitHub and Gitlab, and Linkedln, and faet sheets to spread knowledge about the challenges of cold climate wind energy. In this project, we propose 4 work packages - WP0: Coordination; WP1: Tool and Application (software development and sharing); WP2: Modeling, Validation, and Uncertainty (cold cli mate wind tunnel benchmark experiments), and WP3: Disseminations, with which our aim is to support the Task 54 mission by helping with the development and release of open-source software, guidelines, and benchmark models, provide academic and industrial insight about key issues in cold climate wind, and en sure that the message about cold climate wind is reaching the important industry and standards bodies inside Denmark.
