e2flex - Enabling Flexibility

DTU Vind- og Energisystemer, Power and Energy Systems

Denmark’s ambitious goals to decarbonize require electrification of the transport sector, which is unfolding at a fast pace. e2flex will investigate how EV owner preferences influence charging profiles and how they can offer flexibility to the power system assisted by new digital solutions that avoid overloading the distribu-tion network.

Project description

The Danish government has set ambitious goals to decarbonize Denmark. One requirement of reaching this goal is the electrification of the transport sector. The number of Electric Vehicles (EVs) is increasing rapidly in Denmark. At the same time, electricity prices have increased dramatically within the last year, and this results in customers paying more attention to their electricity consumption and costs. The development of digital solutions enables customers to follow their consumption and correlate it with e.g., electricity prices, CO2-emissions from electricity generation.
In the e2flex project we investigate how customer preferences will influence the profiles of flexible consumers and if this poses challenges in the distribution grid, due to synchronization of the charging. We will develop flexibility products which Distribution System Operators (DSOs) can use to resolve congestion and investi-gate what the value of flexibility is.
The developed solutions will be validated in field tests. Digital flexibility solutions will be developed, which allow DSOs to acquire services to mitigate congestion, and aggregators to optimize the consumption of their portfolio. The reliability of the services and the mutual benefit of DSOs and aggregators will be demonstrated.
