Open PV Performance Modelling
The project will expand the Danish participation in IEA PVPS Task 13 with the purpose of informing about the potential and challenges concerning new photovoltaic concepts, including floating PV and agrivoltaics. Two demonstration systems will be analyzed, and best modeling practices using the open-source PV modeling software pvlib will be disseminated.
The “Open PV Performance Modelling” project aims to support the sustainable deployment of photovoltaic (PV) plants in Denmark by providing Danish stakeholders with the most up-to-date information on the technical challenges related to emerging PV technologies and best practices on how to model their performance.
Accurate performance assessment of new PV technologies is key to successful market adoption. The two main categories of technologies that will be considered in this project are agrivoltaics and floating PV. Current PV performance models are inadequate for calculating the energy yield of these technologies. Insufficient research and limited information regarding these technologies amount to high uncertainty when planning and financing such systems, creating a major barrier to the deployment and adoption of these technologies.
In the project, DTU Construct will participate in the IEA PVPS Task 13, titled “Reliability and Performance of Photovoltaic Systems”. DTU’s role in the task is to provide insight into performance modeling, particularly using the PV simulation software pvlib. Specifically, the project will contribute to understanding the factors influencing the performance of the investigated technologies through two case studies and add new capabilities to pvlib in order to be able to compare technologies.
