Large scale Fluid Bed Pyrolysis
The main purpose of this project is to demonstrate a large-scale pyrolysis process for production of high-quality biochar and energy from common agricultural waste products. The operation of the demonstration plant will enable the development of the technology to a commercial stage, where future large plants will significantly contribute to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector and improve soil condition through the production of valuable and sustainable biochar.
In this project, we propose to build a new pyrolysis demonstration plant that will receive up to 70.000 tons/year of agricultural waste products. The plant will produce up to 20.000 tons of biochar to be used to improve soil conditions for farming practices, and an amount of syngas up to 90.000 MWh, that will be used for producing process heat and dry the wet input material.
The Pyrolysis plant will be made suitable for accepting both wet fuels, such as biogas residue, and dry fuels such as straw. The process is very fuel flexible, and will be able to handle a wide range of waste fuels from the agricultural sector such as manure, grain cleaning waste, beet waste etc. The pyrolysis process is based on circulating fluidized bed technology.
In addition to this, and with the aim of broadening the scope of our technology and enabling a stronger adaptation capacity to future market and regulation conditions, we will explore options for upgrading the syngas (or part of it) into liquid fuels such as bio-oil, bio-methanol or bio-methane.
