WINDFARM

The project is dedicated to enhancing the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of foundation design for offshore structures such as windfarms and energy islands. The envisioned solution involves the implementation of a state-of-the-art Direct Probabilistic Inversion (DPI) algorithm. This innovative approach leverages input subsurface imaging and geotechnical data. The integration of these advanced technologies aims to significantly expedite the design process and concurrently reduce overall construction costs for offshore projects.

Project description

The project aims to improve speed and reduce the cost of foundation design for windfarms, energy islands and other offshore constructions. This is envisioned by reducing the amount of geotechnical ground measurements and by getting an improved assessment of the ground conditions of the entire windfarm area. To achieve this, a more accurate ground modelling of the subsurface for direct input of design parameters is needed together with uncertainties of the design parameters. A probabilistic approach to seismic inversion (Direct Probabilistic Inversion or “DPI”) is proposed. DPI is a new technology within the oil and gas industry, where it has led to improvement of the subsurface characterization. Seismic probabilistic inversion methods have not yet been applied to UHRS data or geotechnical applications.

The project will be coordinated between GEUS and the industry partners, Qeye and SolidGround. GEUS will focus on developing geological and geotechnical models and work on seismic modeling-based inversion and geostatistics. Qeye and SolidGround will focus on adapting and testing the DPI algorithm on synthetic data and the application on DPI algorithm on the test data provided by GEUS.

The project duration will span over three year and the project will include 4 work packages and 9 milestones.
