Et højt-ydende, skalérbart bølgeenergianlæg for den grønne omstilling

The project will design, engineer and construct the first full-scale rotors and PTO unit for our first commercial 1 MW WEC. The lab models of WEC will be tested under production and extreme conditions to understand the structural forces at play before progressing to a full-scale 1 MW design. A new power simulation tool, which will offer accurate levelized cost of energy (LCoE) predictions using data derived from the model testing as well as the costing coming out of the design and engineering work.

Project description

Denmark’s coastal location offers substantial wave energy potential. Weptos has developed a promising Wave Energy Converter (WEC) to harness this resource, diversify Denmark's renewable energy, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Extensive testing of the Weptos WEC in various conditions has demonstrated its potential for substantial renewable energy production.

The central objective of the Weptos project is the development and construction of the first full-scale rotors and PTO unit (responsible for converting the rotor’s oscillatory movement into a continuous rotation, feeding the power from a single rotor onto the main axle) for our first commercial 1 MW WEC. This technology is designed to be versatile and adaptable, making it suitable for deployment in diverse waters. Before advancing to the full-scale 1 MW design, lab models will be subject to rigorous testing under production and extreme conditions. In parallel, a sophisticated power simulation tool will be developed, drawing insights from the model testing, to provide accurate predictions of the levelized cost of energy.

The consortium behind the initiative includes Weptos, Sigma Energy & Marine, Aalborg University, and consultant Julia F. Chozas. Each brings specialized expertise to the project, ensuring Denmark's commitment to sustainable renewable energy solutions.
