Vindmølle Hoved Leje Testfacilitet
The objective of the present GreenLab-project is to develop, implement and offer - to the growing offshore wind turbine sector - a unique world class testing facility, which supports the development and quality assurance of the main bearings for the coming generations of offshore wind turbines in the range up to 25MW and beyond.
Bearings in offshore wind turbines have proven to be a challenge and most offshore OEM´s have experienced problems with bearings under the severe loads they are exposed to.
The sheer dimensions of bearings for offshore wind turbines already presents a manufacturing challenge, and the scale-up of the technology is a challenge.
Current capabilities to test and validate main bearings for wind turbine beyond 10MW are exhausted. But wind turbines grow continuously, and in a year or two 15MW will be the market standard, and within the next decade 25MW will become the market standard.
As the costs and risks involved are immense, it is necessary to be able to verify performance, robustness and lifetime at a full-scale level.
No where in the world is there any capability to test the bearings for the coming generations of offshore wind turbines in the segment up to 25MW.
The objective of the project is to develop a world-class main bearing test facility, which will serve the entire bearing manufacture community, the entire OEM community, and the entire operator community, in their race to deliver bearings of the future.
