IEA-ES Alternate

Energy storage has long been a focus area in Danish research and development. This includes storage of hot water in PTES, where there are currently several demonstration projects. At the same time, there are high expectations for underground heat storage and storage in media such as rock and liquid salt. These technologies have the advantage of being able to store heat at a higher temperature, which provides significantly more flexibility in the overall system. 

The project will make it possible to: 

• communicate Danish research and development activities within energy storage to the IEA and the IEA's ExCo for energy storage (ES), e.g. through country reports at the ExCo meetings. 

• make Danish proposals for new Annexes (research and development activities) and to influence the design of Annexes proposed by other participating countries 

• communicate the content of new Annexes to Danish actors (research institutions and industries) within the area in question with a view to assessing possible Danish participation 

• disseminate results from completed Annexes to Danish stakeholders 

This project is innovative because it consolidates Danish expertise in energy storage technologies. By actively engaging with the IEA and leveraging collaboration with other participating countries, it creates a platform for knowledge exchange, research collaboration, and the potential for Denmark to lead advancements in energy storage on a global scale.
