Danish participation in IEA cooperation - industrial energy-related technologies and systems (IEA-IETS)

The project funds Denmark’s participation in IEA-IETS, officially endorsed by Denmark in December 2006. Current annex focus is on process integration, biomass gasification, environmentfriendly chemicals and separation processes. Furthermore, the project works to develop energy-efficient processes that can be used by SMVs.

Project description

The objective of participating in the IEA implementing agreement IETS (Industrial Energy related Technlogies and Systems) is to join forces with well renowned energy experts in industrial energy efficiency technologies. The industry is diverted making it difficult to cover all aspects in national research programs. Joining international co-operation will allow Danish companies to benefit of world wide expertise. IETS Activities: Through its activities, the program will increase awareness of technology and energy efficiency in industry, contribute to synergy between different systems and technologies, and enhance international cooperation related to sustainable development. The Participants will implement a wide range of co-operative activities in the fields of: 1) Scientific research; 2) Technology and systems research, development; 3) Demonstration and deployment; 4) Technology and systems foresighting; 5) Technology and systems assessment of policies and consequences; 6) Dissemination of information. The work is organised in Tasks (projects). Currently 10 countries are participating in IETS (USA, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark

Results
Four annexes were active during the project period: IX-Energy Efficient Separation Technologies Systems, launched following a workshop in Copenhagen, in which distinct Danish representation is expected. The two other members are Canada (annex leader) and Mexico. X-Energy Efficient Drying and Dewatering Technologies with Swedish, Norwegian, Canadian, Danish, Belgian and Dutch representation. XI-Industry-based Biorefineries is the latest annex, its activities to be launched in 2009 in coordination with Bioenergy Implementing Agreement. Danish participation in IEA-IETS continues under EDDP project ENS 64009-0003, see IETS’ website: iea-iets.org.
