Strengthening of the energy service markets in relation to industry with a view to CO2-allowances and energy efficiency

The objective of the project is to improve the energy efficiency in large, energy intensive industrial enterprises in Denmark through development of efficiently functioning markets for energy services. The background for the project are the increased fuel prices, the allocation of CO2-allowances and the energy saving commitments, which are imposed on the energy utilities through agreements with the Ministry of Transport and Energy. The project will: 1) implement interviews in 25-30 energy intensive enterprises to uncover their strategic assessment of the situation and how it has influenced their practice. The importance of the CO2-allowances scheme will be investigated as well as their view on the market for energy services; 2) An in-depth analysis of 4 large enterprises with regard to their competences and resources in relation to increasing energy efficiency, their needs and preferences regarding external assistance (technical, financial, risk assessment) and their experience in cooperation with energy service companies. What is the match between the energy services offered and the demand? 3) Implement interviews in 10 large utilities and private energy services companies to uncover their strategies and expectations in relation to industry. The results will be used in development of concrete proposals and recommendations to strengthen the efficiency of industry through responding to the new challenges and possibilities
