Energy optimisation of fluid flow in piston compressers
The purpose of this project is to increase the energy efficiency of piston compressors by optimising the flow conditions.
The partners of the project are Danfoss, Sabroe and Danish Maritime Institute (DMI). It is a very important issue of this project to obtain specific performance improvements of the compressors of the industrial partners, and also to investigate some specific new design concepts. The project will moreover include further development of the experimental, semi-analytical and numerical methods used for fluid flow analysis in piston compressors. As an example a general computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based tool for analysis of new valve designs will be constructed. The project will also involve development of new experimental methods such as design and construction of scale models enabling detailed study of the flow in the near valve region with LDA. Furthermore, the project will involve construction of a test rig for measurement of the area and force coefficients used in the semi-analytical models of Soedel and Böswirth
