Project Palaeogene southern West Greenland - An integrated study of the sequence stratigraphy and hydrocarbon prospectivity of the Palaeogene sediments offshore southen West Greenland
The project aims to attract the oil-industry's attention to the Palaeogene sediments offshore southern West Greenland as a potential target for hydrocarbon exploration. A sequence stratigraphic model of the sediments will be developed.
An interpretation of the seismic data acquired by GGU/GEUS from 1990 to 1995 using seismic stratigrahic methods will be integrated with interpretations of the petrophysical, lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic data from the five exploration wells drilled by industry offshore southern West Greenland in 1976 and 1977. The sequence stratigraphic model will be used to forecast areas where hydrocarbons are likely to be trapped. The results of the study will be communicated to the industry through reports and papers and articles in the scientific and industrial press, at exhibitions and conferences, and through personal contracts
