Lightning protection of off-shore wind turbines

The project investigates and evaluates the lightning protection system of relevant offshore wind turbines together with the WT manufactures.

Project description

As part of the preparations for the development of wind parks off-shore it must be ensured that the lightning protection of the wind turbines (WTs) is effective and adequate for use in a maritime environment in order to costly lightning damage to the machinery, that are well known from the off-shore WTs at Vindeby, and in order to reduce the number of interruptions due to smaller lightning damages. In the project a working group with partipants from Elsam, Eltra, Elkraft and DEFU investigates and evaluates the lightning protection system of relevant WTs together with the WT manufactures. Furthermore the working group investigates and evaluates problems concerning corrosion protection of off-shore foundations in connection with lightning protection system grounding
