Power quality and integration of wind farms in weak grids
The project is the first step in a research effort with the overall objective to prepare technical guidelines for grid connection of wind farms to weak grid, and to identify and develop technical solutions to improve the power quality.
The specific objective of this project is to use India as an example to 1) identify critical problems with grid connection of big wind farms, 2) review Danish and Indian technical specification and recommendations for grid connection of wind turbines, and 3) analyse and propose technical and economical solutions to ensure a sufficient power quality. The working program of the project consists of the following elements: 1) Meetings with Danish wind turbine manufacturers about their experience with installation of wind turbines in areas with weak grids. 2) Collect information from authorities, utilities and wind turbine manufacturers in India. 3) Perform measurement of power quality in selected wind farm areas in India. The purpose of the measurements is to quantify the power quality problems. 4) Analyse power quality and prepare recommendations. The results will be presented at open meetings for all interested parties including Danish manufacturers and Indian utilities. The meetings will present draft guidelines for grid connection of wind turbines on weak grids
