Simple connectors for tower on offshore wind turbine foundations

In an earlier research project competitive and cost effective wind turbine foundations in steel were developed. One of the developed foundation types was the mono pile. The present project comprises a further development of the connectors between mono pile foundation and tower.

Project description

Particularly flange connectors, where the pile is driven with the flange welded on. Further, the project comprises a development of a simple tie-in of the power-cable through the mono pile without compromising the integrity. Each single solution will be developed, fabricated, and tested. Tests with driving on piles with flanges welded on and with openings for tie-in of power cables will be carried out. Damage deformation and development of cracks during the driving will be measured. The necessary corrections to the designs will be carried out in order to reduce damage, deformation and crack propagation to acceptable levels. The tests will be executed by a contractor to the scale of 1:5 in order to avoid scale effects. The results of the project will lead to a safe driving and installation of mono piles with flange connectors and simplified tie-in system for power cables
