Reduction of the energy consumption for ventilating schools. Demonstration and analyses
A comprehensive analysis of the considerable energy savings that may be achieved by improved basis for design and operation of systems for ventilation of schools will be useful for designers and people responsible for the running and maintenance of building services in schools
It is the purpose of the project based on data collection in the Danish school Enghøjskolen 1) to analyze the possibilities to save energy by targeted use of increased air volumes, air exchange to neighboring rooms, demand and user control and deposition of airborne pollution, 2) to elucidate the other design aspects that may supplement or replace mechanical ventilation in the meeting of human requirements, 3) to demonstrate the importance of targeted user behavior and natural ventilation in a school before and after renovation works aiming at supporting more energy efficient behavior and ventilation. Data is collected in the late autumn 1997 in the school before renovation and in the early spring 1998 after the renovation. Data collection comprise questionnaires to pupils and teachers in the school, continuous measurements of temperature distributions and air quality parameters, measurements of local air exchange rates, recirculation and ventilation efficiency.
