Energy efficient ventilation in dwellings for prevention against and control of fungi
The aim is to make recommendations on the proper design and maintenance of installations for heating and vestilation where both energy consumption and risk of fungi growth are considered.
It is the purpose of the project. 1) To investigate the relation between ventilation growth of fungi and the choice of construction products in typical dwellings, 2) to investigate the risk of growth of fungi at different moistures and temperatures, this includes consideration of demand controlled ventilation, ventilation efficiency, lowering of temperatures at night, diurnal operation of ventilation and similar, 3) to elucidate the influence on energy consumption of different prophylactic provisions and based on this concretize adequate recommendation for design, maintenance of ventilation in dwelling and household behavior to prevent growth of fungi. The investigation is designed as a cross sectional study in around 100 flats included in order to cover a broad range of construction products and ventilating systems design. An attempt to identify the factors causing fungi growth is made based on detailed analysis of moisture transport and ventilation. Laboratory investigations of fungi on different construction products is included. The influence on energy consumption by suggested prophylactic provisions is assessed.
