Investigation of processes related to biomass gasification

Institut for Energiteknik

Char conversion during gasification was investigated. It was possible to model the conversion rate in a small fixed bed reactor, by using reactivity data. Tar reduction by partial oxidation was investigated.

Project description

The main aim of the project is to establish know-how about thermal gasification of biomass. The project will focus on: 1) Heat transfer in biomass. 2) Gasification processes related to CO-conbustion. 3) Mechanical phenomenons in a fixed char bed

Results

It was shown that the ratio between air and pyrolysis gas during mixing has a significant influence on the obtained tar reduction. Recirculation of condensate back to the two-stage gasifier has been investigated. Recirculation will not lead to accumulation of salts or heavy metals in the gasifier system. The two-stage gasifeir was optimised, and now the condensate contains nearly no toxic material
