Reference data for life time energy consumption and the energy related emissions of building elements
The report contains environmental data sheets for 40 selected building elements of different sizes. An environmental data sheet outlines the contribution of the building element in question to a number of environmental effects with the main stress on the energy-related effects.
The purpose of the project is to work out a manual containing data for lifetime energy consumption and energy related emissions of different designs of building elements and technical solutions. The data are calculated by using a computer tool developed by SBI for calculation of lifetime energy consuption and energy related emissions. The manual is ment for use by the designers in the early design stages taking into account the lifetime energy consumption and the energy related environment impacts in the choise of building elements and solutions. The manual therefore has to contain calculations showing the energy consumption and the environmental impacts of each solution visualised in a systematic and operational way comprising alternative possibilities of the most important building elements and technical solutions and maybe typical variations of whole buildings
The project has concluded in an SBI-report 'Environemntal Data Sheets for building elements' as well as an extention and publication of the environmental assessment tool BEAT (Building Environmental Assessment Tool). The report has not yet been published, as it is being reviewed by environmental experts from Norway and Sweden. The report contains environmental data sheets for 40 selected building elements of different sizes. An environmental data sheet outlines the contribution of the building element in question to a number of environmental effects with the main stress on the energy-related effects. The presentation and content of the data sheet has been determined by SBI according to comments received from the parties of the building industry, but a revision is planned in connection with future projects. The other chapters of the report contain the foundation of the data sheets including the necessary assumptions and delimitations. The data sheets are based on calculations made by the environmental assessment tool BEAT 2000 using the principles of LCA's as far as possible, specified and described in the report 'Environmental Assessment of Products' prepared by The Institute of Product Development at the Technical University of Denmark. BEAT 2000 contains a data base with environmental data sheets for several building materials. These data have been collected by SBI from literature and through producers in connection with a number of previous EFP-projects. In this project approx. 150 building elements have been entered in the data base. It is the intention that the environmental data sheets should provide among others the professional building designers with a quick survey of the environmental impacts of building elements. The computer tool gives the eventual thorough documentation of the environmental impact of the actual building and its compontens
