DK-Superconductors in the power sector

The long-term purpose of this project is to form the basis for the application of high-Tc superconductors in the Danish power sector with potentially commercial savings.

Project description

On a two year term the technological possibilities in the application of superconductors for power transmission will be investigated, based on the experience gained from the building of a 10 m long, low voltage, high current cable. The possible benefits from a total reorganisation of the transmission net, optimized to superconducting technology will be investigated theoretically. On a four year term a 10 meter long three-phase high power, medium voltage cable will be demonstrated. Parallel to this, production techniques for superconducting tapes are further developed in order to ensure the project participants international competitiveness
