MSW based CHP-plants using two-stage combustion. Environmental documentation and IR-video monitoring

The aim of the project was to develop and demonstrate an upscaled novel combustion process for waste and biomass based Combined Heat and Power plants - including the demonstration of excellent combustion efficiency and low emissions.

Project description

The purpose of the project is to develop a new combustion concept for waste and biomass fuel based cogeneration-plants, making it possible to obtain high conversion efficiencies. This project focuses on environmental for the test site erected under the main project (1323/95-0009), as the monitoring authority set up much stricter demands to the test site than was ever anticipated through the first phase of the project. Further, it enhances the possibilities for feed back to the process, as grants have been given to install an IR-video monitoring camera that will be valuable to the project as it enhances the possibilities of visuel determination of the conditions on the grate in the dark low temperature first stage (gasification-stage)

Results

The report covers studies of a couple of existing plants build partly after the concept and the followin design considerations used in connection with the following construction of the plant. Unfortunately there were never executed any test programme as a long row of technical matters - especially around the plant behind the combustion plant - prolonged the project duration. This finally violated the environmental permit, and as the authorities would not allow for a prolongation, the test programme could not be executed. Nothing is consequently learned from this project
