Pitch- and variable speed controlled wind turbine

This project will focus on the possibilities for achieving higher power production, less mechanical stress and a greater degree of flexibility by using both pitch and variable speed control in connection with a wind turbine.

Project description

The project will include the development of modelling tools for the prediction and design of this concept. Practical tests will be carried out on a V29-225 kW wind turbine from Vestas Wind Systems. The project will include the following stages: 1. Design of the wind turbine tests. 2. Practical construction. 3. Design of model tools and expansion of the HawC model. 4. Design of regulators. 5. Test of running operation of the wind turbine. 6. Test of selected control strategies. 7. Outline of a demo wind turbine based on pitch and variable speed control
