Status and perspective for research in aeroelasticity-formulation of a 5 years programme

Prøvestationen for Vindmøller

A status has been performed within the research area 'Aeroelasticity for Wind Turbines', and on this basis, demands for research and perspectives for a future effort are identified.

Results

The result of this is a structure for a number of work areas, that is proposed to form a future research programme with a continous 5 year time frame and with yearly revisions and formulation of sub-goals. Aeroelasticity is regarded in a broad sense as containing the subjects: wind conditions, aerodynamics and aeroacustics, structural dynamics, design loads, and safety and finally design and optimisation. These subjects have been treated in details in different sub-reports, and a summary is made in a main report, that also contains a description of the research programme. The objectives of the research programme has been defined to ensure a continous improvement of the basis for design and optimisation of wind turbines, and to establish, partly, a continous innovation process concerning concept development in cooporation with the industry and partly a reserve for potential problem solution. Concept development contains parametric variations around the existing three-bladed concept in order to continue an evolutionary development from to-days established foundation. This interactive process with the industry will determine the research. It is further proposed to establish a group to follow the programme consisting of representatives from the wind turbine industry, the electric power industry and The Danish Energy Agency. The first one and a half years of the research programme, which is performed as a cooperation between DTU and Risø, has been financed by the Danish Energy Agency as an EFP-97 project, and was initiated January 1997
