Production and distribution of electricity and heating, district heating for cooling
Purpose of the project has been to develop a concept for cooling of buildings based on the Danish concept of district heating.
Heat driven chillers to be installed in or near by the consumers premises is the basic idea of this concept. A city in Høje Taastrup was used as the model for the project. Analyses of economy, energy and environment were based on comparisons with traditional compressor plants. It was assumed that new plants were used in both cases. In cases where actual 'surplus energy' (i.g. from waste incinerators) is available, heat operated chillers are economically attractive today. Cooling based on combined heat power generation is of interest in very large buildings only. The concept entails savings of energy and improvement of the environment due to reduced emission
